YOU HE MAN

a while back my good friend, mark sloan, a connoisseur of all things weird, gave me this 60 year old brochure on creating a kickass body and becoming a he man. i have included the cover and a couple spreads. notice how crazy they are with the type and sentences cross gutters, font size changes--some paste up artist needed the adderall. you know, there aint much else i can say about this except, enjoy!

more fishing stuff

this package is classic--as in funny. first, the brand, Wonder Lures, in that lovely wedding script, just what tough fisherman are looking for. and the tagline, "designed to catch fish, not fisherman", what does that mean? marrying fish? marrying fishermen? who knows. anyway, as you can see this lure has won multiple awards. i didn't even know they had award shows for this type of stuff. i would love to tune in to a "the best fishing lure awards, hosted by Bruno". now that would be good tv. enjoy your day.

nice fish?

this is an old hook sleeve by eagle claw. i don't know how old it is but it is old. take my word for it, okay? anyway, check out the guy with his fish. i think i saw him on the bridge in "deliverance" and those fish don't look too large much less appetizing. i think fishing has come along way. as well as social networking. i almost forgot, the lettering for "eagle claw" is way cool. it has positive hooking qualities. rock on my friends.

zee bee

hey yall. found this old zebco reel package a few years ago in the trash with the beat up reel inside. people throw away the best stuff. anyway, this is a beautiful example classic halftone illustration(the reel) with a fairly coarse dot screen. and the typography and colors are outstanding. i particularly love how the printing, which i am sure was flexography, is somewhat out of register. people try hard to make stuff like this look like a mistake. youknowwhatimsayin?
sweet stuff and only $5.95.

fire toothpaste

just got back from camping on the always amazing outer banks of north carolina. we have been camping out there with friends for some 20 years now and it is never boring--it is the best. anyway, my friend, kris sydow, was going through and old camping bin from years past and came across this fire ribbon tube. we never had a chance to try it but it is one of the most bizarre products i have seen. great type for "fire ribbon". "squeeze on like toothpaste".

automobile lamp tin

in the old days they did packaging right. no formed plastic, impossible to open crap. they used little metal tin containers like this one i found recently. enamel printed with great classic sans serif font(check out that M). white reversed out of dark blue.
sweet.

can you believe

people still collect these things. i saw a whole tea set of this kind in a recent antique store. unbelieveable. STEREOTYPES ARE BAD! DON'T DO IT. rockon.

big ass red

i had to post this photo of me on my good friend, steve sydows' boat "Afterours". a few days ago we were fishing out in the harbor and caught a good mess of fish including this monster redfish that came in at 44" (roughly 20lbs or so). we tagged and released it. it swam away strong. a good day.

supermarket game

i went downtown and visited with my new friends in the design community, josh and helen of fuzzco. great folks, we enjoyed some fun "design talk". but while at their studio i noticed this cool, old game box on their wall. turns out it was an exact replica painted on metal. a friend of theirs, tim liddy, make these amazing 3-d replicas, hand painted on metal. check him out. also check out the big head illustrations on the box. cool stuff, must be a fun game to play--i aint kiddin!
