on the way to the wall

on the way to the wall, we stopped to urinate, get some gas, etc. while in the bathroom (and i always take some sort of camera with me, you never know what you will see) i noticed the prophylactic dispenser and their were these 3 items for sale. genuine horny goat weed? never heard of that. must be the new spanish fly. and genuine too. someone wrote in "sexual positions" i guess that they thought it was a voting booth. and the tingler ring: "diamonds are out! give her the tingler ring!" the color/design makes it feel industrial, maybe it was some sort of new flexible metal or something. great illustration though. anyway, they made me laugh. so maybe you will--maybe not.

roger waters "the wall"

last thursday me, robin and our good friends, robin mcadam and david richards headed to atl for the roger waters, the wall at philips arena. if you have a chance to see this show, run don't walk to your nearest cpu and order those tix. i have always loved the album, the wall, by pink floyd so i was stoked to check this out. well as a designer, this was a wet dream. sonic perfection mixed with surreal and stunning visuals, technologically flawless, on a huge scale, this concert kicked some giant ass! the photos attached i shot with my iphone so down't expect much but it will give you a feel for scale. i also included a shot with the house lights up after the wall had been torn down. i am so glad my buddy dave talked me into buying these tix several months ago. it was a true unforgettable experience.

hold your head high

this past friday was the annual aiga-sc inshow awards. we were lucky enough to have several pieces chosen for the show but i am proud mostly of our intern, jay bush, who scored the big best of show-student award for his black crowes poster. i asked him to design it for the show a while back and then him and mark commenced to silk screen it. great job. great work.

rubber worm molds

found these a while back. i remember when i was a kid my dad used to make his own rubber worms by pouring the hot colored rubber into molds like these. these look like some weird chart. the would make great graphs. i thought they were cool, its probably just me.

artist market this saturday

kristen at the music farm decided a couple years ago that we have such amazing craftsmen here in chucktown that the world famous music farm should have a market day. mark designed and silkscreened the poster for the event. head to the farm saturday (10am-3pm) and check out all the cool stuff for sale. the holidays are around the corner and my birthday is in a couple weeks.

more husk

i totally spaced on one of the giant cogs that kept the gears moving with getting husk up and running. buff ross, owner and emperor of alloneword design worked with me and the folks at husk to create the husk website. a stellar job, i must say. sorry for the delayed kudos buff, you know i love ya.

farm to table

opening on monday will be the long awaited debut of Husk Restaurant, the new restaurant from the neighborhood dining group featuring chef sean brock of McCradys fame. this restaurant is the brainchild of chef brock and david howard that celebrates seans' hand-picked purveyors--all from the south. the menu will change daily, depending on the fresh ingredients he has received. we have really enjoyed working with david and sean on the branding and identity of this amazing eating establishment. other premiere folks involved in getting this thing up and running were melany mullens of wagstaff (pr kings), david richards architect (personal friend and a real smart hokie),
and tommy brooks of brooks sign. yall try and visit this place soon, it will be worth it.

back in the saddle

well, i'm back from our outer banks annual fishing trip. we went north this year, chicamacomico, to be exact. first time in 25 years we have stayed there. we thought the fishing was going to be stellar up north but those damn fish went south on us, literally. so i can tell with certainty that we will be back fishing with our friend jay cavanaugh, on hatteras island, on the bite me this spring and next fall. although the fish were not there and the wind was blowing a gale all week we managed to have large, large time. thanks OBX, see you soon.
