taxidermy lady
at the fair they have a large exhibit barn that folks pay to have a small space to advertise their business. there was a lady there with her stuffed dead animals. the photo here is of the rare "tabletop raccoon". of course it is not alive, it is stuffed. the live ones are real easy to catch though.

packaging
as a designer of packaging, labels, etc., you got to appreciate the simplicity of these. plus look at the size of the salt container. "put some o dat salt an hot sauce on dat frided dough, it will kickass!"
pizza?
with hair. i always love the food illustrations on the vendors at the fair. this one is gross even without the hair on it.
the coastal carolina fair
well it's fair time again and i am pleased to say that me and my family love the fair. we go every year and have a ball. i took some interesting photos--well i think they are interesting. i will post a few over the next few days. since i am a typography guy i had to post this one first."fresh CLIT fries". can you believe they sell those out there? i thought it was a family affair. mo to come...

lil wally
check out this album. lil wally, the polka king. a giant tree with, i guess, lil wallys floating head, as santa? that is a memorable gift.
awesome
this is an old flour sifter. how freaking nice is that design?! simple, beautiful, great colors. best find of the day.
hello everybody
well its been a couple weeks since my last post. thankfully we have been really busy. anyway, i been to a few yard sales, junk shops and have few new things to show you. to my right is packaging for ox blood dressing--for leather goods. i wonder if they still bleed oxen to make red leather beautiful? this is a good example of nice typography and one color packaging. probably 75 years old. nice blood.

teacher/student concert
well the local school of rock, music unlimited, is getting ready for another teacher/student concert so my friend chris holly asked me to come up with something to put on a poster/tshirt for this amazing, enormous, loud, carzy music extravaganza at the windjammer. chris had given me several names, one of which was "schools in". i liked that so i went from there. oh yea, chris also mentioned if i could include the "hail satan" rock and roll gesture somewhere. check it out.
rock on my friends.
frank
this saturday, aug.28, local guitar legend, frank carlier is playing at awendaw green. they asked me to create a poster for that event so i found this old photo of frank and redrew it so he is the devil. ooooh. frank has a reputation as a tough mofo so this fit just fine. everybody doug it.

"art it up"
people give me trash all the time. i guess cause i like it. when i refer to trash, it's really just something other people don't want. i don't mean old french fries. anyway, a few years ago a dear friend found some old pieces of chrome/laminate table tops(from the 5o's). she knew i owned several tables and chairs like that so she thought i could do something with the pieces. well i created this wall sculpture. (if you want to call it that) i had been planning on putting it up here for a few years and finally got around to it. so now if you come by the shop you can see him. we will call him jack banning--for now. talk amongst yourself.
jack banning
who the hell is jack banning? famous golfer? famous fictional golfer? fictional golf brand? i was given this cool old game a while ago by an old friend. this game dates back to the '50's and features wooden pins that are in proportion to a golf ball (as a bowling pin is to a bowling ball). anyway, we have had fun playing it but we still can't figure out where jack banning comes into play. and why jack banning? i guess this is a mystery only the old designer of the box can shed light on. great handdone type and colors. i dig it.

shem creek trash
since it was an abnormal high tide yesterday (6'8") at 8:20 pm, my wife, robin, our friend cindy trimnal and me decided to take my boat out and round up trash. the trash really comes out of the marsh when the water is real high. you can see in the photo three buckets(gray, blue and green), those were some of the trash floating around. in the recycling bin behind the buckets are misc cans and bottles plus a small portable toilet. folks, i cannot describe how much trash are in our waterways. so the next time you are out fishing, boating, playing or in the water, if you see a floating bottle, can or toilet, pick it up. every little bit helps. rock on.

cool stuff
hey people! i have been out of town recently so my updates to the shed have been few. i got a good one here. recently i have been searching for "scrambler" seat--from the old amusement ride, "the scrambler". so anyway, a friend of mine was able to turn me on to this auction company that specializes in those types of items. well because of my absence, i missed this amazing auction. dammit! the photos here are just a taste of the hundreds(and i mean hundreds) of items they had up for auction. amazing stuff!(for me anyway). if anyone out there knows of other auctions or places that sell this type of old amusement items, please contact me.
thanks. rock on.

YOU HE MAN
a while back my good friend, mark sloan, a connoisseur of all things weird, gave me this 60 year old brochure on creating a kickass body and becoming a he man. i have included the cover and a couple spreads. notice how crazy they are with the type and sentences cross gutters, font size changes--some paste up artist needed the adderall. you know, there aint much else i can say about this except, enjoy!
